Kitchen Design Inspiration

It’s one of the most used rooms in your house: it’s where you spend time with family and friends, it’s where you cook and eat. It’s a space to bring people together and to socialise. Your kitchen is a hardworking and well-used space, so it’s important you enjoy spending time there. Whether it be big or small, a renovation may be just what you need to breathe life back into this room.

So, have a read through this article as we explore the latest trends to expect in 2019 and some of our own inspiration for your kitchen.

Life in Colour

While sleek whites and bold blacks aren’t losing any momentum, we are beginning to see colours creep back into our kitchens: on table tops, shelving and kitchen cupboards. We’re not talking sweeping vibrancy but moody hues. Think dark burgundy, deep sea green and navy blues. These striking tones are able to add to any contemporary or traditional kitchen: not too bright but just enough colour to update the room.

Making Space

Minimalism is still bang on trend, but how is a kitchen supposed to be minimal? There is so much happening in a kitchen and so much to be stored, it’s one room that can very easily become cluttered. That’s where storage spaces spaces come in.

Concealed storage spaces and open shelving are making the best of both worlds and allowing you to be smarter with your storage. Keep pots and pans stored out of sight with cupboards that are designed to be inconspicuous. Keep shelving open and opt for materials such as glass to give the room a more open feel. Remember, shelves are for showcasing, not for cluttering! So choose carefully what goes on your shelves and what is stored in your cupboards.

Age of Technology

Even our kitchens are being swept up by modern technology. From smart fridges to appliances that make our everyday life so much simpler, almost all kitchens are now being designed with technology in mind. Here at Haldane Fisher, we supply Quooker - a feature that is becoming increasingly popular. It is a tap that is able to provide instant boiling water, completely replacing the need for your kettle and saving on your energy costs.

Material Choices

Marble worktops were a huge trend in 2018. Their cool surface is ideal for kitchens and gives a contemporary feel to the room. However 2019 is seeing a host of other materials come into play. The traditional wooden worktop remains a firm favourite, while stone and glass are also popular choices. In 2019, all kitchen designs are looking at sustainability. You’ll find more kitchens are being made from recycled materials. It’s not just our worktops that are getting a makeover though. Sinks and taps are getting an updated look with new gunmetal and pewter tones.

A Seat for Everyone

Banquette seating - the use of benches as seating - has typically been more commonly found in cafes and restaurants, but in 2019 you can expect to see this trend arriving in kitchens. These larger seating areas allow room for everyone around the table and with rustic wooden benches, this look can even fit seamlessly into traditional homes.
